Fender Squire Bullet Strat: Good first electric guitar

In Electric guitars on 05/05/2010 at 4:07 AM

It has been 1 year since i started to self -taught electric guitar. I admit it is quite a challenge for me at first due to the fact that some of the finger lessons are so hard that i just want to thrown my guitar away and play Guitar hero instead. I know it sound bad, folks but at least this game give me some quick shortcuts to perform hard smoking rock songs, which would take me about 2 years to be able to play with the real guitar. And the ironic is when i had quite familiar with my Fender Squier fret board, i hardly can play any Guitar Hero songs above 90% now. It is true that if you are good at playing the real guitar, it will not guarantee a successful in playing expert mode in Guitar Hero and vice verse. So yes, if you really want to play it your way guitar, you should put down the plastic console, buy the real one and start playing straight away.

My first attempt to buy a guitar was turn out to be very lucky as i got electric guitar pack with a good prize (250$) and the guitar has been tuned up ready for action. I read a lot of the articles in the internet about how to buy first guitar but they were a bit confusing. I mean how on earth you can judge this guitar is better than these others if you, the buyer are not actually hold and playing the guitar itself. And maybe the tones from these recommended guitars might not be your liking ? So my first advice is you should buy your guitar in a local store so you can test all of it function and more importantly if something wrong happen, you can away bring it back for checking or swapping. Don’t be shy just pick up any guitars from the store and play it (I am sure staffs are happy to help your as a beginner guitarist 😉 That is why i am not recommend Ebay as your first choice. It is true that you can find really good deal in Ebay for example: my second guitar AXL Mayhem Jacknife with only 100$ in about 95% condition. However, you will need to know really good about what you intend to buy or you need to have someone experience and close to help you.

Consider myself as 1 year self-taught and played 5 guitars: Fender Squirer Bullet Strat, Fatboy LP style guitar, AXL Mayhem Jacknife, Epiphone studio version and ESP Kirk Hamlet signature ( Got a bargian on this one only 380$), i would recommend Fender Squire Bullet Strat the most. Why ?

  • And more importantly it give you a bright clean sound good enough to recognize your own mistake and fix the buzz when moving between the fret board. I often use it when i practice Paul Gilbert alternative picking exercises as i can easily hear any bad string pressing/muting when i increase my speed.
  • About the prize, i bought it as a pack 250$ along with lead, DVD metal method first season and Fender Sp-10 (I know a lot of people complaint about this Amp distortion ability but i think it is a perfect match with Fender Squire Bullet Strat in term of delivering a good bright clean sound, suitable for blue or Jimi Hendrix play along season). You can bought these guitars off Ebay with the prize around 80-100$ included postage so unless you can go and test the guitar i strongly recommend you as beginner should buy what you actually can hear and play ! Some people from Ultimate guitar forum report different quality with same Fender Squire guitar model so make sure to try different Bullet Strat guitars to find the most comfortable tone and suitable with your fingers.

So for short: if you are looking for a first well-know brand guitar and tight on your budget: Fender Squire Bullet Strat is my recommendation
